MODEL UNITED NATIONS OF THE HAGUE 2020
Challenges to democracy: Defending human rights, empowering minorities and institutional reforms
WELCOME FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF MUNOTH 2020
Dear delegates and honored guests,
Welcome to Model United Nations of The Hague’s official website. My name is Sunadda Damrongmanee and I am currently serving as the Secretary General of MUNOTH 2020.
This year’s conference will focus on the theme of Challenges to Democracy with further discussions on the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals and the ways in which the existing bodies of the United Nations could be reformed or improved for this new decade and onwards. I feel extremely honored to have been able to form a highly international Secretariat team this year with students from around the world to organize this annual event.
In Model United Nations, participants have the opportunity to discuss contemporary issues and acquire experience in international policy-making. They will also have the opportunity to meet peers from outside of their local community who are also interested in international relations. MUN takes shape in the form of a simulated United Nations committee such as Security Council, or other international organizations such as NATO. MUN is an excellent opportunity to discover one’s character, practice professionalism, and negotiate with people bearing different opinions. I personally believe that while Model UN is known to be an activity meant for those interested in politics, it is quite applicable to anyone of any field of study.
This year’s edition will simulate eight committees –the Security Council, ICJ, NATO, the European Council, DISEC, the Human Rights Council, ECOSOC, and a Historical Committee.
We are currently working on building the conference by recruiting chairs and creating topics for each committee that are relevant to the theme. Furthermore we are contacting partners around The Hague to set up social events with guest speakers and diplomats. Our team aims to provide you with the most efficiency throughout the applications process and conference.
Whether you are an experienced delegate or a new MUNer, we would like to invite you to join this experience and help us make MUNOTH 2020 a success! See you this April!
